*Colonsay derived its name from a small island in the Hebrides off the West coast of Scotland. Our town is fortunate to have a unique group of residents; farmers, miners, professionals, tradespersons and retirees - all of diverse cultures and backgrounds.

The town of Colonsay, Saskatchewan, Canada was founded on May 21, 1908, as a post office. It was later incorporated as a village in 1910 and received town status in 1977.
The RM began as a Local Improvement District in 1906 and became the RM of Colonsay No 342 in 1910.
